Get Ahead Of The Game!

A recent survey of 5,364 UK employees (carried out by one of the world’s leading job board Totaljobs) revealed that, due to the impact of COVID-19, over 70% of workers are more likely to consider working in a different industry. Of those who are currently not working due to the virus, almost 20% are using the time to plan and search for a new career.
And whilst many businesses are also streamlining their teams to cut costs and re-shuffling their workforce it’s likely the employment market is going to have an abundance of talent…… but it won’t last long.
So how can businesses and candidates use this as an opportunity and get ahead of the game?
- If you’re a candidate and find yourself out of work……
- get your CV up to date and registered on as many job boards as you can and sign up to daily new job alerts
- research the companies you want to work for and send your CV to their hiring managers. It’s a great opportunity to market yourself so don’t underestimate this as it’s a proven way to secure a new role
- spend time every day applying for as many jobs as you can, however many roles you’re currently applying for you probably need to double it. Being asked for an interview doesn’t mean you have to take the job and if this is your first time on the job market for a while, the interview practice won’t do you any harm.
- If you’re a business and you’re streamlining and/or re-shuffling your team…….
- Consider the talent you need right now and will need for future operating methods. The team you have now might not be the team you need for the “new normal”.
- Who in your existing team has really impressed you during the COVID-19 impact? Are there any individuals who deserve a promotion or a job change?
- Who’s been along for the ride (before and during the impact)? Is it time to take some action on those employees who just don’t fit now or in the future.
What actions are you taking to ensure you survive and thrive in the coming months?
